In Super Mario Sunshine, Bowser Jr. executed a plan to save Princess Peach, whom he believed was his mother, by kidnapping her and framing Mario as a harasser of his father. Armed with a magic paintbrush from Professor E. Gadd and a massive robot built by himself, he confronted Mario repeatedly. Although he failed to stop Mario's rescue of Peach in the final fight, he told Bowser he had already figured out the truth about Peach's identity. Despite this revelation, he remained determined to fight Mario again, still perceiving him as a bad man, driven solely by his desire to help his father and make him proud.
